A classic German cake! This cake uses finely ground nuts as a base reducing the amount of flour needed. With a thin nougat layer and light whipped cream between the layers this cake is light while still being moist and full of flavor. One of my grandmother's favorites!

The majority of the flavor in this cake comes from the hazelnuts, with the nougat adding an extra little punch. Hazelnuts are the traditional nut used, but the cake also works when made with almonds.
